Panel: The Tradeoffs of Data Transparency: A Discussion of the Pros and Cons of Replication Packages, Pre-registration & Pre-analysis Plans
Abstract
There is increasing adoption of replication packages, pre-registration and pre-analysis plans in the Economics profession. In this panel we will discuss the tradeoffs of these various forms of data transparency. The benefits include ease of replication, minimization of errors in published papers, deterrence of data falsification, fewer incidences of p-hacking, and possibly less publication bias. However, there are also costs to create these forms of data transparency.
